Hurricane Preparedness

To protect you, your family and your possessions, Real Property Management DC Metro suggests the following preparations.

1.    Download the FREE American Red Cross Emergency app to your phone. For iPhones click https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emergency-by-american-red/id954783878?mt=8and for Android phones click https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cube.arc.hzd  This app will allow you to monitor conditions in your area, find help and let others know you are safe, and contains a great deal of information you might need in a hurricane emergency.

2.    Listen to news broadcasts and heed evacuation advice.  Seek shelters or make arrangements to stay with others or make hotel reservations outside of the emergency area.  If you evacuate, take important items with you such as rental insurance policy information, passports, credit cards, cash, jewelry, and important keepsakes.

3.    Check your disaster supplies and restock if needed.  Make sure you have at least three days of supplies on hand including water, food, ice, batteries, gasoline, pet food, cash, and other family necessities such as diapers and medications.  Click here for basic supply kit suggestions.  https://www.ready.gov/kit

4.    Prepare your household for the winds and rain.  Bring in outside furniture, bicycles and toys.  Close windows and hurricane shutters.  Turn your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest settings, and keep them closed as much as possible.
